James City County Monitoring Hurricane Irene
James City County officials continue to monitor Hurricane Irene with full staffing at the Emergency Operations Center and public safety patrols throughout the County. Currently, there are 24 residents at the public shelter which opened Friday evening at the James City Williamsburg Recreation Center, 5301 Long hill Road.
Few power outages have been reported according to the Dominion Power outage web site with 59 households reported without power. As the storm continues to track north, County officials are urging residents to stay off roads, monitor local media and web sites and continue to keep property and family safe.
A James City County public inquiry line has been established, 757-564-2140, to answer County hurricane- related questions.
County residents should sign up to receive local emergency alert information at www.jccalert.org. Text messaging charges may apply.
