JCC Robbery: Wendy’s 6666 Richmond Rd., Lightfoot

On Wednesday, June 29 at 11:10 p.m., two black males robbed the Wendy’s located at 6666 Richmond Rd. in Lightfoot. Only the drive-thru was open for business at the time of the incident. Both suspects climbed through the drive-thru window wearing masks and armed with handguns. They ordered four employees towards the back of the restaurant and to lie on the floor. They then instructed the manager to open the safe. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled out the back door of the business. One of the victims reported seeing a silver, tan or gold SUV leaving the parking lot traveling west on Richmond Rd.
The suspect vehicle was spotted a short time later by James City County Police on Croaker Rd turning into the Station at Norge Apartments. Both suspects fled on foot into the woods behind the apartments. James City County Police, along with the Virginia State Police, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, Williamsburg Police and James City County Fire Marshal’s Office searched the area with the assistance of the VSP helicopter and K-9 units. A suspect was taken into custody approximately 6 ½ hours later on the railroad tracks behind the Colonial Carwash on Richmond Rd. in Lightfoot.
James City County Police have charged Gary Piggott, B/M, 23, of Raintree Way in Williamsburg with Robbery and four counts of Abduction. He was also charged with Robbery and three counts of Abduction for the robbery of the 7-Eleven at 7114 Merrimac Trl. that occurred on June 8, 2011.
The investigation continues.
