County redistricting web site and public input opportunities

The James City County Board of Supervisors (Board) appointed Citizen Redistricting Committee has begun discussions on reshaping County election districts using 2010 Census figures. The Committee is charged with recommending a proposed map to the Board by April 12, at their regular Board meeting.
County citizens are encouraged to participate by providing input and their own recommended map proposals if desired. To facilitate, the County has provided the following opportunities for public participation:
JCC TV & Video On Demand: Committee meetings are broadcast live on JCC TV, Channel 48 on Cox Cable and streamed live and On Demand on the County web site.
Web: jamescitycountyva.gov/redistricting – a web page has been created to access video, calendars, criteria and maps. The public is encouraged to visit the site often to review redistricting updates and progress.
Public comment: submit comments to firstname.lastname@example.org; Committee meetings are open to the public (see schedule below); call the Secretary to the Board of Supervisors at (757) 253-6609; write to County Administration, Redistricting, P.O. Box 8784, Williamsburg, VA 23187.
Map submissions: the public is invited to submit their recommended maps using these guidelines:
- Email maps to email@example.com
- Map attachments should be no larger than 10 MB and submitted as a pdf file or MSWORD document
- Maps submitted should include name or organization and contact information.
If needed, James City County will provide access to data, software and current maps available only at County offices. Call 253-6654 for more information.
The Citizen Redistricting Committee meets at 4:30 pm, April 7 and 12, in the Board Work Session Room, Building F at the County Government Center, 101 Mounts Bay Road. Public hearings for the redistricting plan and Redistricting Ordinance are scheduled for the Board of Supervisors meetings April 12 and 26, respectively.
