It is a great time to buy a house in Ironbound Square
Ready to take advantage of historically low mortgage interest rates? James City County’s First-Time Homebuyers Program has several single-family homes for sale in the Ironbound Square neighborhood.
The First-Time Homebuyers Program, administered through the County’s Office of Housing and Community Development, offers qualified homebuyers grants for down payment assistance. Grants for up to 10 percent of the purchase price which are forgiven after 10 or 15 years are available to purchasers who contract to buy a house before October 31, 2011. Grants for up to $7,500, forgiven after five years, are available on a first-come, first-served basis until the end of the year. Eligible homebuyers must meet credit-worthiness guidelines and have an annual household income between approximately $38,000 and $81,000.
Ranging in size from 1,000 to 1,645 square feet, the energy-efficient homes feature up to four bedrooms and 1 ½ to 2 ½ bathrooms and are priced between $155,000 and $210,000. The Ironbound Square neighborhood is within walking distance to New Town and is one mile from Route 199.
In addition to the First-Time Homebuyers Program, the County’s Office of Housing and Community Development offers Homebuyer Counseling and VHDA-approved First-Time Homebuyer Education classes.
