Whether it’s the upcoming budget, the annual County Spring clean-up, taxes or land use applications, James City County’s new Citizen Services web portal offers a central online location for information that citizens can use daily.  The web portal is organized in two areas: Getting Involved and Living Here.  It can be found on the County’s home page at or at
Getting Involved helps citizens to stay informed about their local government and tax dollars.  It includes links to County calendars, public meeting agendas, planning and land use information and offers resources about decision-making boards and commissions.
Living Here leads the user to information that can be used everyday like tax rates and payment due dates, local property databases, educational and civic engagement opportunities, current hot topics plus an easy to use “How Do I…?” section.  It also directs users to explore the many County services available at the convenient Satellite Services Office in Toano.
Last year, County communications staff conducted focus groups on public information efforts and most recently listened to feedback offered during the new County Administrator’s community meetings. “This portal is a direct response to citizens telling us that it can be difficult to find County information. Now, from dog licenses to local government proceedings, we believe it’s easily found through this portal,” says Doug Powell, Assistant County Administrator.  Opportunities for more feedback are provided on the main portal page.

Citizen Services was formed to enhance County efforts to inform, educate and engage County citizens. It was created by moving the existing offices of Communications, Cooperative Extension, Satellite Services and Civic Engagement initiatives under the supervision of the Assistant County Administrator.
