COUNTY OF JAMES CITY and
CITY OF WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA

PUBLIC NOTICE


Pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1973b, the County of James City (“the County”) and the City of Williamsburg (“the City”) give NOTICE that each has commenced actions in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia seeking declaratory judgments under the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended.  The purpose of the actions are to seek declarations from the court that James City County and the City of Williamsburg are in full compliance with the Voting Rights Act, thereby providing the County and the City with exemptions (known as bailouts) from the special provisions of the Voting Rights Act.  NOTICE is further given that the County and the City have reached SETTLEMENTS of these actions with the United States Attorney General.
