Areas of James City County hit by suspected tornado

The Grove and Kingsmill area of James City County near Pocahontas Trail from Kingsmill to the Newport City line has been hit by severe weather and a suspected tornado this evening at approximately 6:57 p.m.  County Fire and emergency management officials are assessing damage and at this time know of 10 – 15 homes damaged by the tornadic activity. At least one resident was transported by ambulance to Sentara Regional Hospital for injuries.

 

James City County Fire Station 2 on Pocahontas Trail is currently being used as shelter for some residents. The Red Cross is on the scene to help displaced residents.

 

Power is out in many parts of the County. All area residents are urged to stay off the roads.
