James City County Citizen Leadership Academy accepting applications

James City County residents are encouraged to apply to become part of the 2012 Citizen Leadership Academy (CLA) scheduled to begin March 14.

The free ten-session program is designed to give an in-depth look at how local government works and how citizens can become involved. The Academy covers topics such as civic engagement, economic development and tourism, public safety and the County budget. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to see their government in action during a full-day County tour.

Most sessions are held at the Freedom Park Interpretive Center, 5537 Centerville Rd. Applications and the program schedule are available online or by calling 757-259-4986.

Class size is limited to 25 participants and attendance is required at all sessions. The deadline for applications is Feb. 24.
