Structure fire at 106 Winterset Pass in James City County
Fire and EMS units from James City County, York County and City of Williamsburg Fire Departments responded at 12:40 p.m. on Aug. 13 to a structure fire at 106 Winterset Pass in the Raintree subdivision in central James City County. First arriving units on scene reported a single story residential structure with heavy fire in the garage and extending into the attic.
The occupant was outside the structure and confirmed no one else was in the residence. Initially fire attack was made from inside the structure expecting a door leading into the garage from inside and the plan was to push the fire away from the interior of the house. Once inside they found there were no doors in the inside which led to the garage. The crew backed out with the hose line and initiated an attack from the exterior. A second crew pulled a second hose line and made entry into the structure to stop the fire from spreading through the attic of the home; which was accomplished by pulling the ceiling in the kitchen and making small holes in each of the other rooms to check for any further extension. The fire was marked under control at 1:01 p.m. Fire units cleared the scene around 2 p.m.
James City County Fire Marshals responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause which was determined to be electrical in nature.
