Hampton man wanted for fatal car crash in James City County

 

The James City County Police are looking for Gary Jerome Turner of Hampton. Turner was indicted by a Williamsburg/James City County Grand Jury on May 9 of this year for a fatal car crash that occurred on Aug. 8, 2011 in James City County. He is charged on a 7 count indictment of maiming while DWI, 2 counts involuntary manslaughter, 2 counts child neglect, DWI, and improper brakes.

 

The crash occurred between two vehicles at 8:05p.m. in the 1300 block of John Tyler Hwy in James City County. Turner was driving a 1997 Ford minivan west on John Tyler Hwy (Rt. 5) and for some unknown reason lost control and ran off the road. The van rolled numerous times and struck a Dump Truck that was traveling east. The driver of the Dump Truck was transported to Williamsburg Sentara Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were 7 occupants in the minivan, which included adults and children ranging in age from 2 months to 17 years. A 14 year old boy, Brashawnta Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. The other injured occupants were transported to Riverside Hospital and MCV Hospital for treatment of injuries ranging from non-life threatening to critical.

 

Turner is 37 years old, 5’10” tall, 165 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address is on Andrews Blvd in Hampton. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Turner is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
