JCC homicide victim identified

On Jan. 3 at 6:57p.m, the body of a black male was found burning on the side of the road in the 9300 block of Merrimac Trl. in James City County. An autopsy performed by the Richmond Medical Examiner’s Office attributed the victim’s death to the fire.

 

On Jan. 10, the victim was positively identified by the Richmond ME’s Office through dental records. The victim is identified as Aakir Omar Ali, 37 of Norfolk-Virginia Beach area. Ali legally changed his name from Omar Greene sometime in 2008. He was last seen at his job on the morning of the day he died at the Calvary Cemetery in Norfolk where he was employed by the City of Norfolk as a grounds keeper. His vehicle, a 2002 red Jeep Grand Cherokee, Virginia License XSH-2371 was found in the 2800 block of Somme Ave in Norfolk on after midnight on Jan. 9.

 

JCC Police ask that anyone who may have seen Ali or his Jeep Grand Cherokee on Jan. 3, or anyone with any information related to his death to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

 

Attached are photos of Ali and his Jeep. One of the photos of the Jeep depicts some damage to the rear of the vehicle that someone may recall seeing.
