Movies under the Stars (all ages), Free!

Enjoy one of the biggest family movies of the year! Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Drool in the Pool
Saturday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
$5/dog; Free if you show completed Tails on the Trail ‘Paws-port’ 
Music, pet contests, demonstrations and pet-friendly vendors featured. Swimming is for dogs only. All dogs must be properly registered and vaccinated. Offered in partnership with Heritage Humane Society; all proceeds benefit the Society. Harvest Festival & Scarecrow Stuffing!
Saturday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
$3 parking/car
Families will enjoy arts and crafts, carnival games, moon bounces, a hayride and much more! Local food, craft and business vendors featured. Also make the biggest, the best, and maybe the only scarecrow in your neighborhood! First come, first served while supplies last. $15/scarecrow. Cash/checks only on site. Buddy Art, Free! youth ages 7+ with special needs and/or physical disabilities)

Warhill Sports Complex

Open Studio Time (ages 16+)

Practice can make the difference in how you progress in pottery. Uninstructed, this open studio time allows students to continue to work on pieces begun in class. Shimmy Shakedown (ages 13+)

Free Black Settlement Presentation, Free!
Saturday, Sept. 22, 9-11 a.m.
Freedom Park
Learn more about the Free Black Settlement at Freedom Park during this interpretive talk. Col. Lafayette Jones Jr, a descendent of those that lived on the land during the 18th century, will offer a presentation on the life and freedom experienced by those who lived there more than 60 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. Book signing, My Great, Great, Grandfather’s Journey directly follows the presentation. Open to all ages.

 

Aquatics  


Learn To Swim Programs
Open registration held Sept. 9-14. After you have successfully passed a class, you can register for the next level during this two-week open registration period. If you’re unsure of your or your child’s swimming needs or level, attend a FREE swim evaluation on Tuesday, Sept. 4 or  Wednesday, Sept. 5, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center.
