Get ready James City County - The Great American Cleanup™ is coming
Grab your work gloves and mark your calendars. As a result of a partnership between askHRgreen.org and Keep Virginia Beautiful, Hampton Roads was selected as one of 10 national kickoff locations for Keep America Beautiful’s 2012 Great American CleanupTM. On April 27 and 28, hundreds of volunteers will transform local parks, waterways and recreational areas into cleaner, greener environments. Hampton Roads is the only designated kickoff project in Virginia.
Cleanup events in James City County will be held April 27 and 28 when local volunteers work side-by-side with corporate and military command teams on cleanup projects identified by the County and askHRgreen.org. The projects focus on turning local parks, playgrounds and public spaces into greener, more sustainable places to live, work and play.
Individuals who wish to volunteer or propose a project may visit the website or call the County’s Environmental Coordinator at 757-259-5375. In addition, businesses and corporations can register to spearhead an employer-led team cleanup project. Corporations and organizations who would like to support the Great American Cleanup as a sponsor may contact Mike Baum at firstname.lastname@example.org, visit keepvirginiabeautiful.org or call 804-665-2908.
The Great American Cleanup is the largest grassroots community involvement program in the United States. In 2011, more than 3.8 million volunteers participated in 3,600 clean up events in 16,500 communities throughout the United States.
