New JCC videos promote crime prevention

There are three components a criminal must have in order to commit a crime:  desire, ability and opportunity. The James City County Police Department is committed to offering services to citizens to help remove the opportunity criminals need in order to succeed.

The Police Department has partnered with the County’s Communications Office to produce two new videos to demonstrate how residents can reduce their chance of becoming a victim of a crime and increase their ability to keep their families, homes and property safe.

The first video, Home Security, explains the Police Department’s free in-home service to James City County residents. Officers conduct an on-site evaluation of a home or property and identify problems that compromise the safety and security of the home from outside intruders. The Program also covers tips to help increase safety and reduce liability and prevent loss from disasters such as fires or floods.

The second video, Lock Your Car!, was made in response to the recent increase in thefts from unlocked cars in County neighborhoods. Police encourage citizens to always keep their cars locked in order to eliminate criminal temptation.

Often a few simple changes can greatly reduce the opportunity for a criminal to make you their next victim.

The videos can be found on the County’s YouTube channel youtube.com/jamescitycounty and on Cox Cable Channel 48.
