JCC CERT volunteers host emergency preparedness presentation

cert volunteersRussell Savedge, Nuclear Emergency Planning Coordinator for Dominion Virginia Power, and Kate Hale, James City County Director of Emergency Services, recently gave a presentation to citizens and volunteers of James City County’s CERT Program (Community Emergency Response Team).

Savedge presented information on the Surry Nuclear Power Plant and Hale discussed preparations for the upcoming hurricane season. Fifty citizens and volunteers attended the meeting hosted by JCC CERT members from Greensprings Plantation, St. George’s Hundred, Villas at Five Forks and Powhatan Shores.

JCC CERT volunteers are trained in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. In the case of an emergency, they are ready to assist their neighbors until professional emergency responders and critical resources arrive. For more information on JCC CERT, call Caroline Dunlap at 757-564-2142.
