Captain promoted to Deputy Fire Chief

Ryan Ashe

James City County Fire Chief, Tal Luton, has announced the promotion of Captain Ryan T. Ashe to Deputy Fire Chief effective July 16, 2013. Ashe has been with the County Fire Department since 2003 and is also a Captain with Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue since June 2000.

Ashe succeeds former Deputy Chief Joe Davis who retired last spring after 29 years with the County’s Fire Department. “His selection is a testament to our succession management program within the department. I know that Ryan will serve as a role model for our firefighters and that he will make an excellent senior leader for our department in the years to come,” says Fire Chief Luton.

Ashe brings a variety of training and work experience to the position. A graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection and Safety Technology, he is certified as an Executive Fire Officer with the National Fire Academy and also a certified paramedic with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. He completed the Hampton Roads Fire Officer Command School in 2006 which prepares him for a variety of functions and required responsibilities within the National Incident Management System, fire prevention, terrorism emergency response and arson detection.

Ashe is also on the Virginia Task Force 2 Urban Search and Rescue and an adjunct instructor with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs.
