Channel 46 arts programming returns
The equipment upgrade required for the broadcast of Classic Arts Showcase on the Community Channel on Cox Cable Channel 46 has been completed ahead of schedule. Programming will air beginning this weekend, June 22 and 23.
On June 1, Classic Arts Showcase (CAS) switched to an all-digital format. As a result, an equipment upgrade was required in order for James City County and City of Williamsburg customers to continue to have access to the programming.
According to their website, CAS is a not-for-profit 24-hour satellite programming service offered free of charge through local public service channels. There is no program guide, because the beauty is that viewers never know what to expect. One moment you might be watching a rare film of George Gershwin performing one of his own compositions on the piano, and less than five minutes later you might see Beverly Sills in a great moment from a classic opera.
The Community Channel is a partnership between James City County and the City of Williamsburg. In addition to CAS programming on Saturdays and Sundays, the channel rebroadcasts all County meetings and displays message board information for local non-profit organizations throughout the week.
