Want to learn more about the daily operations of the James City County Police Department? Apply to be part of the 38th Citizens Police Academy set to begin Feb. 5.

The free 15-session program covers the Police Department’s philosophy and structure and provides information on polygraphs, RADAR, traffic stops, DUI enforcement, search and seizures, handgun safety, firearms, internal affairs, crime scene investigations, buildings searches and officer survival.

Most classes are held on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center, 4600 Opportunity Way. The class meets for one Saturday session at the County’s firing range.

The Academy is open to adults living or working in James City County. Applicants must complete an application and undergo a criminal background check before being admitted to the program.

For more information and an application, see the Department’s website: jamescitycountyva.gov/police/citizen-police.html. All applications must be received by Jan. 15.
