Jolly Pond Road to temporarily close for dam repairs

Beginning Oct. 7, a portion of Jolly Pond Road will temporarily close to allow Longhill Excavating Inc. crews to perform needed repairs to Jolly Pond Road Dam.

On June 7, a large rain event caused the pond to overflow across the road between the two spillways. As a result, soil, concrete blocks and bricks from a previous private repair on the downstream face of the dam eroded. Crews must armor the dam face with underlayment cloth and Class I Rip-Rap, a larger stone material which can withstand the force of water flooding across the dam.

Crews will also work on needed shoulder repairs in the same area and around the spillway.

Once completed, this erosion and sediment control project will prevent further damage during similar rain events in the future.

Work is expected to be completed and Jolly Pond Road will reopen to traffic by Oct. 13. For more information, call 757-259-4117.
