Loaded rifle magazine found at Hornsby Middle School

 

On Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 11:41 a.m, James City County Police responded to Hornsby Middle School on Jolly Pond Road in reference to a loaded rifle magazine that was found on the floor in a classroom located on the second floor. A 7th grade student reported to a teacher that he saw the magazine on the floor in the classroom. School officials contacted the police department. The school was placed on “partial” lockdown and a sweep of the school was conducted by school officials, James City County Police and Virginia State Police K-9’s. No weapon was recovered.

 

The recovered magazine was a loaded .17 caliber rifle magazine. Several students were questioned. The school was in lockdown for approximately 2 hours while the sweep was being conducted. The investigation is on-going.
