FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sgt. Steve Humphries
Operation Chill™ in progress in JCC
Officers with the James City County Police Department are on the lookout for kids doing good in the community. Once caught, the culprits will receive one of more than 1,400 tickets for a free small Slurpee® beverage.
James City County Police have partnered with 7-Eleven inOperation Chill™, the stores’ popular community service program. 7-Eleven has distributed coupons to more than 600 agencies across the U.S. as part of this as part of the award-winning community service program introduced 18 years ago.
In addition to rewarding good behavior, Operation Chill™ offers opportunities for officers to talk with kids in a non-law-enforcement situation. Some officers use the coupons as rewards for wearing bicycle helmets, doing good deeds, participating in community activities and organizations, picking up trash, deterring crime or observing school rules. Others use the coupons as icebreakers to establish a rapport with kids in a neighborhood, or as an incentive for participating in school safety programs.
