Special Events


National Hershey Track & Field Program (boys and girls ages 9-14), Free!

Thursday, May 9, 5:30 p.m.

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m.

Lafayette High School track
Events include the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, standing long jump, softball throw and relays. Top finishers qualify to participate in the Eastern District Meet in June and winners advance to the State meet in July. Info: hersheystrackandfield.com or call 757-259-5355.

 

Singletrack Maniac 50K (ages 18+)

The generous 10-hour time limit for the 31-mile Ultra race is great for beginners, but the single-track trails are technical and challenging with constant roots and elevation changes. If you’re looking to surpass the marathon and want to stay local, this is the first event of its kind in the area. No onsite registration. Youth & Teens


REC Connect

Registration is underway for Summer Camp 2013, open to youth ages 5-14 (must have completed kindergarten). Camp will be held Monday-Friday, June 17-August 23, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. at five elementary schools and Berkeley Middle School. Weekly full-time fees (4-5 days) are $90/week ($85 for JC/W residents) and part-time (3 days or less) is $70/week ($65 for JC/W residents). Field trips fees extra. There is a $10 discount available for second and subsequent children attending full time. Registrations now accepted on a space available basis. Williamsburg Youth Wind Ensemble (ages 11-18), Free Concert

Kimball Theater in Merchant’s Square

Red Cross Babysitting Course (ages 12+)

Learn To Swim Programs
Open registration held May 1-10. After you have successfully passed a class, you can register for the next level during this two-week open registration period. If you’re unsure of your or your child’s swimming needs or level, attend one of the FREE swim evaluations on Tuesday, May 7 or Wednesday, May 8, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center.
