James City County storm update, 12:15 p.m.


The James City County Government Center located on Mounts Bay Road and the Tewning Road Complex will remain closed today, June 14, due to a power outage.


In addition, the following County offices and facilities are closed:


  • Satellite Services
  • Upper County Park pool and shelters
  • Chickahominy Riverfront Park pool and shelters (campground is open)


The following County offices are operating under normal conditions:


  • Convenience Centers
  • James City County Recreation Center
  • James River Community Center
  • Police
  • Fire
  • Emergency Dispatch
  • REC Connect
  • Human Services Building
  • Freedom Park (bike trails are closed)


There are 9,000 customers without power in James City County. A substation is expected to come back online this evening which will take care of 8,000 of those customers. Full restoration is expected by Saturday. To report a power outage, call 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357) or go to


County officials remind residents to stay away from all downed wires. Residents with emergencies should dial 911.
