Vehicle fire on Scotts Pond Drive in James City County

Four Fire and EMS units, with 15 personnel, of the James City County and Williamsburg Fire Departments responded to the report of a large vehicle fire on Scotts Pond Drive at the intersection of E Grace Court at about 4:25 p.m. this afternoon. The updated information reported that the vehicle was a school bus and students were being evacuated.

The first arriving units at 4:28 p.m. reported a school bus with heavy fire and smoke from the rear engine compartment. They noted that all occupants were off the bus and located in a neighboring garage. The fire was quickly extinguished and school transportation staff notified of the incident and requested to respond. The bus received significant damage to the engine compartment and rear of the bus. Another bus was sent to the scene to provide transportation for the remaining children. There were no injuries to any of the occupants or firefighters on scene.

The James City County Fire Marshal’s office was on the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation which remains undetermined at this time.
