Send photos of what ‘rural’ means to you

Rural Lands

What does ‘rural’ look like to you? Is it a field, a tractor or maybe a farmer’s market? Rural can mean different things to different people and James City County is hosting a photo drive to find out what ‘rural’ means to you.

All area residents and businesses are encouraged to send photos of locations inside or outside the County. Each photo should include a caption about where the photo was taken, why the location was selected and contact information for the photographer. Photos are due Friday, July 12, 2013 and can be submitted digitally to  or to Hard copies can be mailed or hand delivered to:

James City County Planning Division
Attn: Leanne Reidenbach
101-A Mounts Bay Rd.

Williamsburg, VA 23185

Everyone who submits a photo will be entered in a random drawing to win a donated local business gift basket. The more photos you submit, the better your chances to win. The drawing will take place Monday, July 15, 2013.

All submitted photos will be available to view on or at Building A of the County Government Center.

Look for an educational panel about agriculture, forestry and other rural-related topics in June and stay tuned for more information about how we will use the photos in July to help define what rural means to the County.
