42-year-old Williamsburg man dies in fatal crash

At 11:45 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 13, James City County Police responded to single-vehicle car crash in the 8300 block of Pocahontas Trail. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Nissan Altima was traveling east when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected and crossed the on-coming lanes and went off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree stump near the intersection with Howard Drive and caught fire. The driver was pulled from the vehicle by a passerby. He was airlifted to Riverside Hospital in Newport News. He later died from his injuries at 5:52 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jeffrey Lamar Wynne, 42 of Williamsburg. It is suspected that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
