Youth complete Neighborhood Learn To Swim program
More than 20 local youth spent their spring break participating in James City County’s Neighborhood Learn To Swim program. The youth, in grades K-8 from the Lafayette Square and Village neighborhoods, took advantage of the program which serves qualifying residents ages 5-12 with limited access to aquatic facilities.
Neighborhood Learn To Swim encourages participants to develop a lifelong skill and love of swimming as a fun recreational activity and exercise choice. Participants are introduced to basic swimming skills such as floating and treading water and safety skills and preventive measures such as swimming to a safe location and the importance of wearing lifejackets and swimming in supervised areas. At the end of the program, children are tested on their progress and linked to future recreational activities.
