County releases 2035 Comprehensive Plan website

The James City County Planning Division and Community Participation Team (CPT) are excited to announce the release of the Toward 2035: Leading the Way Comprehensive Plan website. The website is available and is full of information about the adopted timeline and methodology, why we have and update a Comprehensive Plan, accomplishments from implementing the 2009 Comprehensive Plan, and the ways that you can get involved and provide input. The website also includes a short video to further explain the role of the Comprehensive Plan in guiding the direction of James City County.

The Comprehensive Plan is the County’s master plan for guiding future growth as put forth by County citizens. It is reviewed every five years and is used to evaluate development proposals and guide the decisions of County departments over the next 20 years. It covers all aspects of the community, and the 2035 Comprehensive Plan review will focus on economic development, transportation and land use. The Plan update is scheduled to follow a 15-month timeline with a final version ready for consideration by the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors in Spring/Summer of 2015.

The Community Participation Team is a combination of citizens and Planning Commission members who will assist with County efforts in collecting and reporting citizen input on the future of the County. Members of the CPT are also available to present at group or neighborhood meetings. Contact the Planning Division at 757-253-6685 to schedule a date.

To provide your own input go online; invite a speaker to visit your organization; call the hotline 757-259-4990; or attend a public meeting this summer.
