At 1:11 a.m. on April 26, fourteen Fire and EMS units of the James City County, James City-Bruton and York County fire departments responded to the report of a trailer fire in the Marston’s Trailer Park on Centerville Road in James City County. The first arriving engine reported a single-wide trailer fully involved.
Fire crews initially set up for a defensive fire attack using several exterior hose lines to knock down the bulk of the fire. Fire suppression was hampered by a downed power line arcing in the front yard. Once the power line was secured, the crews continued their suppression efforts.
The trailer’s only occupant suffered severe burns to both arms, head and neck and was transported directly to the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and later transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk.
The fire was marked under control at 2:30 a.m. No firefighter injuries were sustained during operations and all units returned to service at 3:34 a.m.
The James City County Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation which is still under investigation at this time.
