Makeup day scheduled for Transfer Station, no makeup scheduled for curbside recycling
The County’s Transfer Station located at 1204 Jolly Pond Rd. will be open to all County residents, including commercial customers, on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to make up for the Jan. 22 closure. For payment information and minimal disposal requirements, call 757-565-1279. No tires, batteries, liquids, appliances, medical or hazardous waste are accepted. The Transfer Station is operated by Waste Management and all waste is hauled to a Subtitle D, State-regulated landfill located in Charles City. The Transfer Station is typically closed to commercial customers on Saturdays and Sundays.
Curbside recycling collection missed on Jan. 22 will not be made up. Residents are encouraged to hold on to their recyclables until next scheduled pick up on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Recyclables may also be taken to one of the County’s three Convenience Centers for free recycling:
- Jolly Pond Road, 1204 Jolly Pond Rd., 7 a.m.-5 p.m., seven days a week
- Tewning Road, 117 Tewning Rd., Monday 8 a.m.-noon. Tuesday-Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m., closed on Sunday
- Toano Convenience Center, 185 Industrial Blvd. 8 a.m.-4 p.m., seven days a week
