Tails on the Trail
Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m.-noon
Freedom Park
$30/registration fee
Ready for a summer-long trail adventure with your dog? Two new trails were added this year for a total of eight adventures with your dog through the summer. Participants also receive FREE admission to Drool in the Pool on September 6. Registration includes a Tails on the Trail T-shirt, a bandana for your dog and an itinerary outlining all eight self-guided trail adventures. Proceeds benefit the Heritage Humane Society. BMX Skate Jam (all ages/experience levels welcome!)

Skate Park (adjacent to the Recreation Center)
Skateboards, bikes, food, live local music and of course, prizes make this skateboarding and BMX competition one not to miss! Participants are divided into one of three categories – beginner, intermediate or advanced – and will be judged on style, flow and difficulty of run. Black Settlement Presentation & Book Signing (all ages), Free!

Spencer’s Ordinary Wreath Ceremony, Free!

The Williamsburg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will conduct a memorial service on June 26 in honor of the valiant Americans who gave their lives in the Battle of Spencer’s Ordinary on that date in 1781. A series of skirmishes occurred in the woods and meadows of Freedom Park between units of Lord Cornwallis and those of the French general, Marquis de Lafayette. Ladies, join the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association’s Dirt Divas on a woman’s-only mountain bike ride! Explore the trail system at Freedom Park, meet fellow female riders in the community and learn the ins-and-outs of mountain biking. Learn to Swim, Free Swim Evaluations
There are individual registration periods before each swim lesson session begins. The summer schedule is posted online at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation and registration is accepted at the James City County Recreation Center and online. Having trouble deciding which swim level is appropriate for your child? Our certified Water Safety Instructor will be available 4:30-7 p.m. on the following days to provide free swim evaluations - Tuesday, June 3; Wednesday, June 4; Tuesday, June 10; and Wednesday, June 11. Summer Camps!

REC Connect Summer Camp is for ages 5-14 ( must have completed kindergarten). Registrations accepted on a space available basis. Camp runs June 16-August 22, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Offered at five elementary schools and one middle school. Program closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Affordable weekly fees include all field trips! Experience FUN, arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor play, gym games and community outings! This exciting summer camp will enhance mobility, socialization and leisure skills. Different weekly camp themes; sign up for one or multiple weeks! Parents are responsible for their child’s daily pick-up.
