FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kelly Cross, MPO, James City County Police
JCC Police to host Coffee with a Cop on June 13
On June 13 at 10:30 a.m., Officers from James City County Police Department and Deputies from the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office will come together at Shorty's Diner at 627 Merrimac Trl. in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee.
Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Department’s work in the County’s neighborhoods. The majority of contacts law enforcement officers have with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interactions.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the Country as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve. More information about the national program can be found on their website: www.coffeewithacop.com
For more information about the event on June 13, please contact MPO Kelly Cross at 757-603-6023. Stay tuned for additional dates in the County in the future.
