Notice of Public Hearing

 

The Board of Supervisors of James City County, Virginia, will conduct a public hearing on August 12, 2014, at 7 p.m. in the County Government Center Board Room, 101-F Mounts Bay Rd., James City County, Virginia, to consider the following:

 

ZO-0008-2013, Accessory Apartments. An ordinance to amend JCC Code, Chapter 24, Zoning, Article I, In General; Article II, Special Regulations to consider amendments to definitions and regulations for accessory apartments; and Article V, Districts, Division 2, General Agriculture District, A-1; Division 3, Limited Residential District, R-1; Division 4, General Residential District, R-2; Division 4.1, Residential Redevelopment District, R-3; Division 5, Residential Planned Community District, R-4; Division 7, Low-Density Residential District, R-6; Division 8, Rural Residential District, R-8; Division 14, Planned Unit Development Districts, PUD; and  Division 15, Mixed Use, MU to consider amendments to permitted uses and specially permitted uses related to accessory apartments. A summary of the proposed amendments is contained in the table below:

  2. Add a new definition for Accessory apartment, detached.
  3. Amend the definition of Accessory building or structure to state that   detached accessory apartments approved by special use permit can be used for housekeeping purposes.
  4. Clarify the definition of Dwelling unit.

  1. Amend Special requirements for accessory apartments to specify existing requirements apply to Attached, accessory apartments.
  2. Amend text in Special requirements from one-family to single-family (residence).
  3. Add special requirements outlining requirements for detached, accessory apartments.

  1. Amend Permitted uses, by amending Accessory apartments in accordance with Section 24-32 to specify “attached.”

All interested persons are invited to attend the hearing. Case materials are on file in the Planning Office, and may be viewed during normal office hours at the County Government Center, 101-A Mounts Bay Rd., James City County, Virginia.
