National Hershey Track & Field Program (boys and girls ages 9-14), Free!

Events include the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, standing long jump, softball throw and relays. Top finishers qualify to participate in the Eastern District Meet in June and winners advance on to the State meet in July. Singletrack Maniac 50K (ages 18+)

Freedom Park
Experience Freedom Park in a whole new way! The generous 10-hour time limit (19-minute mile pace) for the 31-mile Ultra race is great for beginners, but the single-track trails are technical and challenging with constant roots and elevation changes. Family Fun Fest

Festivities include a live stage show featuring Wendy “the Singing Scientist” and Flumpa the tree frog, a community showcase with performances by local groups, live music by the LCV project plus a magic show, dance performances, martial arts, the juggler, face painting and more! Come out to one of the County's two outdoor pools and celebrate the start of the season. Door prizes given each hour of the event! Pool fees apply. The pools will open weekends only May 24-June 8, noon- 6 p.m. Daily operation hours begin June 13. After hour pool rental available! Summer Camp 2014 
REC Connect summer camp is for ages 5-14, who’ve completed kindergarten. Camp runs June 16-August 22, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. The priority registration deadline is May 5. Registrations accepted after deadline on a space available basis. Offered at five elementary schools and one middle school. Program closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day.Summer Camp Weekly Fees: Full-time (4 or 5 days) – $110/week; $105 for James City County/Williamsburg residents and includes field trip fees. $10 discount available for second and subsequent children attending full-time. Part-time (3 days or less) – $90/week; $85 for JC/W residents and includes field trip fees. Registration forms and program information are available for download at or pickup at the James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, Freedom Park or Satellite Services in Toano. Women’s Mountain Bike Ride (all ages and abilities), Free!

Meet at the Freedom Park Interpretive Center
Join the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association’s Dirt Divas on a woman’s-only mountain bike ride! Explore the trail system at Freedom Park, meet fellow female riders in the community and learn the ins-and-outs of mountain biking. The rides include novice (with some instruction) and intermediate/advanced group levels. Bike and helmet required. Water bottles and/or hydration packs encouraged. 


Bluebirds in Our Gardens, New!

Learn about attracting bluebirds to your yard or garden. We’ll also visit one or more boxes on the park trail in hopes of finding eggs and/or chicks.

Designed with a parent and child in mind, you’ll learn horse safety, daily care, grooming and more during these hands-on classes. In the last class, you’ll have the chance to ride one of the horses. WJCC GED® & Adult Education (ages 18+)
Want to earn your high school equivalency certificate or improve your Virginia Placement Test scores? The Williamsburg-James City County GED®/Adult Education program offers free Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED® (General Educational Development) classes as well as free
assessments. The program, which serves community members age 18 and older, is underway, and you can join in at any time. The first step is to attend an Orientation Session. Orientations are held weekly on Mondays, 9 a.m.-noon or Tuesdays, 5:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. at the Educational Center at James Blair. ABE and GED® classes are held weekly:
Tuesdays:   9:30 a.m.-noon or 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Thursdays:  9:30 a.m.-noon or 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
The spring program session is open through May 22.

Aquatic Registration Dates

American Red Cross Lifeguard Re-Certification (ages 15+)

$55; $50 for JC/W residents, course does not include materials.
Renew your Lifeguarding and CPR/AED for professional rescuers certifications. Must successfully complete the prerequisite skills, practical skills, first aid skills and written tests. Failure to complete all requirements does not guarantee a full refund. Cell phone use is not permitted in class and can be grounds for dismissal.
