November 2014

Saturday, Nov. 1: Black Settlement Presentation & Book Signing, Free!, 3-4 p.m. at Freedom Park. Join Lafayette Jones Jr., a descendent of those that lived on the Free Black Settlement at Freedom Park, for a presentation and book signing. Come experience 18th century life more than 60 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. All ages welcomed!

 

Friday, Nov. 7: Live Well Expo, Free!, 8:30 a.m.-noon at the James City County Recreation Center. Explore a variety of health and leisure services for adults, ages 55+ during this annual event! Pamper your mind, body and spirit while taking advantage of Free preventive health screenings including vision, hearing, cholesterol and blood pressure. Learn more about senior services available in the community, get your vaccinations and gather information on nutrition, home health care, pet therapy, social and recreational services and more!

 

Tuesday, Nov. 18: Maintain, Don’t Gain, Top Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating, Free!,   5:30-6:30 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center. How can you eat healthy during the holidays? Most foods, even traditional holiday treats can fit into a healthy eating plan. Learn some ideas for trimming the fat and calories from your holiday dinners while bumping up the vitamins and minerals. Pre-registration required by Nov. 5. All ages welcome. Presenter: Megan R. Cordova, RDN,CDE, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Educator with Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes and Nutrition Outpatient Center. 311643.

 

Saturday, Nov. 22: Basketball Turkey Shootout, 10 a.m. at the James City County Recreation Center. Youth in grades 1-6 and a family member can team up to compete in various basketball-related competitions to try and win the grand prize-a Thanksgiving TURKEY! Competitions include a Free-Throw Shootout, Rubber Turkey Shoot, 2-Ball Relays and more! $15/team of two. 511820-A.

 

December 2014

Friday, Dec. 5: AFCC Movie Night, Free!, 6-8:30 p.m. at the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center. Come out and enjoy a family night of entertainment-a family movie, games, crafts and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 101011-A.

Friday, Dec 5: Parent’s Night Out for youth in grades K-8, 6:30-10 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center. Parents-take the night off and relax! Drop off your child and let them have a blast with themed activities. We’ll even provide dinner! Dec. 5 is Winter Wonderland Night, so come make a snowman, bake warm cookies and watch the movie Frozen! $25/child; $20 for JC/W residents plus a $5 discount for 2nd and subsequent children in the same family. Youth (grades K-5) 970100-B; Teens (grades 6-8) 604100-B.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 9: Santa Calling, Free, 5:45-8 p.m. JCC Parks and Recreation is offering “phone calls from Santa” for children ages 9 and younger living in James City County and Williamsburg. Arrangements have been made with the North Pole for Santa and/or Mrs. Claus to personally call each child who returns their completed registration form by Tuesday, Dec. 2. Santa will attempt to call children between 5:45-8 p.m.; however, specific call times cannot be guaranteed due to Santa’s holiday schedule. Click one of the following links to print and complete a form – English or Spanish. Registration forms are also available at the Recreation Centers, Satellite Services in Toano and the Freedom Park Interpretive Center.

 

Saturday, Dec. 13: Breakfast with Santa, 9-11 a.m. at the James City County Recreation Center. Enjoy this annual pancake breakfast buffet and a morning of “holly-day” cheer with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Photo opportunities available. Register by Dec. 5. Max 100 people. $12/person for ages 3+, 412000-A; Free for ages 2 and younger, 412000-B.

 

January 2015


Saturday, Jan. 24: Group Fitness Open House, Free!, 9-11 a.m. at the James City County Recreation Center. Now is the time! It’s a New Year, so start a new successful routine to Go LEAN in 2015! Aquatic and land instructors will be available to discuss their classes, formats and typical modifications with you in a personal setting. Participate in mini classes throughout the morning. Sentara nurses will be available to administer health screenings. No registration required. For ages 18+. For more details, call 757-259-4176.

Saturday, Feb. 21: Destination Recreation Expo, Free, 9 a.m.-noon at the James City County Recreation Center. Your one-stop-shop for everything Parks and Recreation has to offer! Discover your parks and facilities, learn about all the classes and programs offered throughout the year and be one of the first to register for summer camps! Informational booths, interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities are just a few great features of this event. We’ll keep your children engaged while you gather information about summer camp opportunities, sports, outdoor, aquatic programs, special events, parks and facilities, REC Connect, inclusion and therapeutic programs and activities offered through our affiliate organizations. Raffles and discounts for camps, classes and facilities given on the day of event! All ages welcome.

 

March 2015


Saturday, March 14: Family Fun Night, 7-9:30 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center.  Break out of the winter blahs and have some FUN with your family! Join us for a night of family entertainment-enjoy structured games in the gym, create various craft projects together, splash in the pool, play racquetball, enjoy an old-fashioned board game and much more! Pre-registration recommended but not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. $3/person for ages 13+, 403000-A; Free for ages 12 and younger, 403000-B. If pre-registering, please register everyone who is attending!
