Saturday, April 4: Easter Egg Extravaganza, Free, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Wanner Stadium in the Warhill Sports Complex* and 1:30 p.m. at the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center. Wanner Stadium: Walking-2 years, 10 a.m.; 3 years, 10:10 a.m.; 4 years, 10:20 a.m.; 5 years, 10:30 a.m.; 6 years, 10:40 a.m.; and 7 years, 10:50 a.m. Frink Center: walking -7 years, 1:30 p.m. With over 10,000 eggs for the hunts, these events are ones to see! Hunts are divided by age and will be held in the Wanner Stadium and at the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center. Also enjoy face painting, refreshments for purchase and more! Bring your Easter basket and camera! Co-sponsor: Williamsburg Parks and Recreation. *Enter the Stadium from the Thomas Nelson Community College entrance. Weather permitting.

 

Friday, April 24, 3-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Summer Camp Fair 2015, Free, James City County Recreation Center. Still need to sign-up the kids for summer camp? Looking for something NEW this year? Attend the 2nd Annual Summer Camp Fair to learn about great camps and register your kids at the same time! Goodie bags for first 200 guests! Camps include day (full-time and part-time) and overnight camps; sports, adventure, scouting; dance, music, arts & theater; vacation bible school, special needs; academics-science, foreign language, history; preschool to high school camps; and more! Saturday, April 25: Parent’s Night Out (grades K-8), 6:30-10 p.m., Freedom Park. Parents take the night off and relax. Drop off your children and let them have a blast! The theme is Spring Forward…Earth Day Kid Zone and we’ll celebrate Earth Day with hands-on fun, exciting activities and outdoor adventures including a short guided night hike! Don’t forget your flashlight. Dinner provided. $25/child; $20 for JC/W residents$5 discount available for 2nd and subsequent children in the same family. Youth (grades 1-5) 970100-A and Teens (grades 6-8) 604100-A.

 

May 2015

 

Saturday, May 2: Run, Jump, Throw (boys and girls ages 7-12), Free, New, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center. This fun-filled event will introduce kids to the basic skills of human movement that are also the foundation of nearly every sport-running, jumping and throwing. Kids will participate in a variety of activity stations-no previous skills required. All kids need to bring are their tennis shoes. Event is offered with help from USA Track & Field and The Hershey Company. Weather permitting.

 

Saturday, May 16: Family Fun Fest, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Enjoy petting animals, inflatable rides, hands-on activities, family entertainment with music and contests too! ‘Touch-a-Truck’ is back for all ages! Stop by the ‘Good for You Zone’ and see why being healthy can lead to loads of fun. Oh, and be sure to participate in the Fun Run! Grab some lunch provided by our food vendors and visit all of our local craft and business vendors! Offered in partnership with SWRMC and Colonial Roadrunners. Admission: $5/car (cash or check only). Weather permitting.

 

Friday, May 22: Movies Under the Stars, Free, 8:30 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Enjoy some of the biggest family movies of 2013 and 2014, all under the stars! Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. All ages welcome. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Movies subject to change. Weather permitting.

 

Saturday, May 23: Karaoke in the Park, Free, 7 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Sing the night away while enjoying the park! All ages welcome. 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Weather permitting.

June 2015

 

Saturday, June 6: Tails on the Trail, Free, 9 a.m.-noon at Freedom Park. Are you up for a summer-long trail adventure with your dog? Join the Heritage Humane Society for this kick-off event! This self-guided adventure will start you off at one of the eight trails for your exploration through the summer. Did you know June 6 is also National Trails Day-get active with your pet! Friday, June 19: Movies Under the Stars, Free, 8:30 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Enjoy some of the biggest family movies of 2013 and 2014, all under the stars! Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. All ages welcome. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Movies subject to change. Weather permitting.

 

June 19 – July 17: Student Art Show & Exhibit, Free, during library operating hours at Williamsburg Library, 515 Scotland Street. Anne Kushnick’s oil painting and pastel students will display their talents in this annual exhibit. View many unique pieces with some available for purchase.

Saturday, June 20: Freedom Stories & More, Free, noon – 3 p.m. at Freedom Park. Join Williamsburg native Dylan Pritchett, best known as ‘The Storyteller’ along with other Virginia Black Storytellers (VirBS) as they share with you Freedom Stories at Freedom Park! The Free Black
Settlement area is the backdrop for this special event. Also featured are unique crafts for kids, music and food available for purchase.

 

Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28: Skate Jam, Saturday, 10 a.m. is for skateboarders and Sunday, 10 a.m. is for BMXers at the Skate Park (adjacent to the James City County Recreation Center). Skateboards, bikes, food, live local music and of course, prizes make this
skateboarding and BMX competition one not to miss! Participants are divided into three categories – beginner, intermediate or advanced – and will be judged on style, flow and difficulty of run. Registration and warm-ups begin at 10 a.m. $10/participant/day. Spectators are free and welcomed. Preregistration is recommended but not required. All ages/experience levels welcome! Skateboarders, 506090-A and BMXers, 506090-B.

 

July 2015


Saturday, July 11: Park to Park Bike Tour, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park (CRP). Preregistration Deadline: June 30. Register for this annual self-guided bicycle tour! Choose from a family ride (ride as little or as much as you’d like), 15 miles, 30 miles or the NEW Half Century ride (50 miles)! The 50-mile ride includes visits to Mid County Park, Powhatan Creek Trail, Freedom Park (FP), Little Creek Reservoir Park and Upper County Park. Cool off after your ride in the CRP pool. Fee includes refreshments, pool admittance, maps, support vehicles to help out tired riders and lunch! Preregistration forms available beginning May 1 at local bike shops, the Centers, FP Interpretive Center, Satellite Services in Toano or online at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation. Offered in partnership with Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. Half Century 50-mile Ride - $15/person if you preregister by June 30 or $20/person after June 30/onsite (8 a.m.- 2 p.m., 407800-A). 30-mile Ride - $10/person if you preregister by June 30 or $15/person after June 30/onsite (8 a.m.-2 p.m., 407800-B). Family Ride or 15-mile Ride - $5/person if you preregister by June 30 or  $10/person after June 30/onsite (9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., 407800-C). Weather permitting.

Saturday, September 12: Drool in the Pool, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. This popular dog swim day is eagerly anticipated each year! Pool passes for your dog will be available for purchase online beginning Aug. 1. $10/dog. Music provided by Philip Newbery of WMBG radio. All proceeds benefit the animals of Heritage Humane Society. Saturday, September 19: Harvest Festival & Scarecrow Stuffing, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Come enjoy the sights and activities at this annual event! Arts and crafts, food, games, inflatables and more! Scarecrow Stuffing will be back again! Make the biggest and the best scarecrow in your neighborhood! First come, first served while supplies last. Admission: $5/car (cash or check only). $20/scarecrow (includes all supplies). Cash/checks only on site. Don’t forget your camera! Weather permitting
