Fire Explorers get to train with professional firefighters and paramedics to learn real life rescue skills such as rope repelling, vehicle extrication, fire hose operations and first aid. They also participate in community service projects.
Explorers age 16 and over can ride-along to emergency calls with fire and EMS crews, with permission from the on-duty Captain.
Post #911 participates in an annual skills challenge with other Fire Explorer posts in the region. In early summer they attend the annual Fire Explorers Day Camp in Virginia Beach.
The program is open to young men and women ages 14 (and completed the eighth grade) through 20 years old.
Fire Explorers are expected to remain responsible with their school work and display strong personal integrity. Time commitment involves monthly meetings, in addition to periodic special training and service events.

Some of our current officers in key leadership positions got their start as Fire Explorers. This program provides an opportunity for young people to learn leadership, responsibility and gain valuable workplace skills.
