The Park Ranger program began in July 2006 to provide a safe and positive experience for citizens and visitors using James City County parks.
Park Rangers are Armed Special Conservators of the Peace, which gives them the ability to write summonses and enforce County ordinances. Their jurisdiction incorporates 1,600 acres in 22 parks including athletic fields, trails, the Skate Park, picnic areas, boat ramps, playgrounds, campgrounds and more. The Park Rangers work closely with County Police Officers who serve as liaisons to improve enforcement of ordinances in parks.
Additionally, the Rangers develop learning curriculums for community organizations, civic groups and a variety of other outlets. If you would like a Ranger to attend your community meeting, please contact us today.
