Geocaching 101• All Ages/Families

Would you or your group like to learn the basics of geocaching? Learn about the world’s largest outdoor treasure hunt in a fun and unique setting. We’ll explore Williamsburg’s best geocache hot spots and learn the basics of how to create your own. Program fee is  $20 minimum or $5/person for groups of five or more. Sessions will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available weekdays and evenings through October. Movies Under the Stars • All ages 

Enjoy some of the great box office titles out under the sky! Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. We’ll bring the stars. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Movies subject to change. Weather permitting.

Forest Explorer Fridays • All Ages/Families FREE!

Join us on the third Friday of each month to explore the plants and animals that live in James City County parks. Most programs take place at Freedom Park, except where otherwise listed: 

Butterflies 
Join us as we explore the Williamsburg Botanical Garden for the different species of butterfly that call the park home. Weather permitting.

We’ll explore the meadow and Free Black Settlement, seeking out the resident bat population to learn about their foraging habits and benefits to humans. Weather permitting.

Join us on the Greensprings Interpretive Trail to discuss the different creeks and waterways that define our area, and the habitats provided for local wildlife. Meet at the Greensprings trailhead next to Jamestown High School.

Come Stargaze with NASA Skywatcher Astronomy Club! The NASA Skywatcher Astronomy Club will host an observing session to share their knowledge, experience and love of astronomy.

WILLIAMSBURG BOTANICAL GARDEN PROGRAMS

The Williamsburg Botanical Garden, located at Freedom Park, offers a monthly Learn and Grow series on topics for the home gardener, ages 18+.  As we navigate the resumption of activities, the Learn and Grow series has transitioned to virtual activities accessed via Zoom. Topics are being realigned from the spring schedule and as speakers are confirmed, dates will be added. Please visit the Botanical Garden website at for dates, topics and speakers.
