If you check your blood sugar or inject medications at home it is important to dispose of your used needles and lancets safely. You can purchase a special container from most pharmacies, or use an empty household container that is leak proof, made of heavy duty plastic, and has a tight fitting lid. Laundry detergent bottles work great! Once full, close and tape the lid shut, clearly label it “Sharps” and discard the container in the center of a full trash bag.
Please do not bring full containers to Fire Administration or any other County office.
DO NOT place the container in recycle bins. The recycling machines crush the containers and scatter the needles, which puts workers at risk.
