[ARCHIVED] Alewerks Brewing Company Named “Best Brewery” in Hampton Roads


James City County is pleased to announce that Alewerks Brewing Company was named “Best Brewery” in Hampton Roads by Veer Magazine. Alewerks has a primary location in York County, but in 2017 opened a second taproom in James City County at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets.

Alewerks received a number of awards in different categories, which led them to be named Best Brewery. The awards included:

  • Light Lager – Silver for Weekend Lager
  • Amber and Dark Lager – Gold for Oktoberfest
  • British Bitter – Gold for Maizie’s ESB
  • American Amber and Brown Ale – Silver for Tavern Brown Ale
  • IPA – Runner-up for Superb IPA
  • Imperial IPA – Runner-up for Bitter Valentine
  • Porter – Bronze for Paycheck Porter
  • Belgian Session Ales – Bronze for White Ale
  • Belgian Strong Ales – Gold for Jubilee XI
  • Sour Ale – Silver for Lover’s Greed
  • Smoked and Wood Aged Beer – Gold for Café Royale
  • Herb, Spice and Vegetable Beer – Gold for Pumpkin AlE

In the future, a new 93-gallon brewing system for special small-batch brews and a three-barrel system will be added to the space at their Williamsburg Premium Outlets location.

Alewerks opened its brewery and taproom in York County in 2006 and is not far from its tasting room at Williamsburg Premium Outlets. Their current taproom will continue to be the sole location for new releases, community events and entertainment. Alewerks also received a gold medal in the 2017 Virginia Craft Brewers Cup in the European Pale Lager category for their Weekend Lager.
