[ARCHIVED] Fire Units Respond to Chickahominy Road Fire

James City County Fire Department

Units from James City Bruton Fire, James City County and York Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in the 3200 block of Chickahominy Road late Wednesday afternoon.  


Crews were dispatched at 4:40 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire in the home. The occupant reported he had been cooking and fell asleep and awoke to the fire in the kitchen and exited the home. The family’s dog was trapped in the fire and was rescued by firefighters and is in good condition.


The home sustained heavy damage and American Red Cross is assisting the three household members. The Fire Marshall determined the fire to be accidental in nature and caused by unattended cooking
