[ARCHIVED] Need Help with Heating?

Heating Help

The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Social Services offers an Energy Crisis Assistance Program.

Crisis Assistance helps households in heating emergency situations with primary heat security deposits, utility heating bills, repair or replacement of heating equipment, primary heating fuel, or emergency shelter. Services are available Nov. 1-March 15 for equipment-related assistance, security deposits, and emergency shelter; services are available from the first workday in January through March 15 for purchase of primary home heating fuel and payment of primary heat utility bills.

All benefits are based on availability of funds. In order to be eligible, certain citizenship criteria must be met and a household's monthly income must be less than the maximum allowed for the number of people in the home (see chart below).

You can access applications online, by calling the Enterprise Customer Service Center at 855-635-4370, or by visiting your local department of social services. (The James City County Department of Social Services is located at 5249 Olde Towne Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.)
