James City County joins the Hampton
Roads Coalition of Agencies in offering the 22nd Annual Healthy Aging Conference. The conference is Thursday, April 5, at the King of Glory Lutheran Church and School, 4897 Longhill Road in Williamsburg. The free conference is open to everyone and begins with registration check-in and a continental breakfast at 7:45 a.m. The conference concludes at 12:30 p.m.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Ayn Welleford, Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and Chair of the Department of Gerontology. Dr. Welleford has taught extensively in the areas of Lifespan Development,
Developmental Gerontology, Geropsychology, as well as Ethical Decision Making
and Human Values. She currently works to #DisruptAgeism while "Promoting
Optimal Aging for Individuals and Communities" through teaching,
scholarships and community engagement.

- Marley Flores-Santoro, VA Senior
Medicare Patrol on the importance of keeping a health journal
- Dr. Dilip Sarkar, retired Vascular Surgeon turned Certified Yoga Therapist, discussing “Healthy Aging through Better Health Literacy”
- Melvin Evans, AARP Virginia State President, detailing legislative updates
- Caroline Fornshell, Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist with LWell, on “Nutrition for Optimal Living”
Featured activities include fun trivia, cooking demonstrations,
medication check-ups, blood pressure checks and door prizes. This conference is
sponsored by The Hampton Roads Coalition of Agencies, which includes AARP
Virginia, James City County Parks & Recreation, Olde Towne Medical Center,
Peninsula Agency on Aging, Peninsula Health District, Riverside Center for
Excellence in Aging & Lifelong Health, Sentara Health and Prevention, and
