[ARCHIVED] Fire Damages Home in James City County

James City County Fire Department

James City County firefighters responded to a structure fire today June 16, 2018 in the 2200 block of Carriage House Way at the Monticello at Powhatan townhouse complex. A 911 call was received at 3:54 p.m. reporting the fire, with firefighters arriving at 3:30 p.m. observing smoke coming from the front door. A small fire inside was quickly extinguished. The unit was equipped with a sprinkler system which had activated and helped to contain the fire. The resident and her dog got outside safely, however medics evaluated the resident for minor burns. The James City County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause at this time, however it appears accidental probably caused by smoking materials. The City of Williamsburg Fire Department and York County Department of Fire and Life Safety assisted.
