[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Independence Day

July 4 graphic

Enjoy fireworks at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Busch Gardens celebrates July 4th with fireworks on July 3, 4 and 5. The spectacular fireworks event is at 9:30 p.m. each night. Event is included with park admission. Parking is required. As a bonus, Busch Gardens offers additional experiences that can be added to your fireworks experience: an all-you-care-to-eat picnic at 8:30 p.m. each night or a river cruise. Menu includes sirloin steak, BBQ ribs, fried chicken, chicken tenders, BBQ sandwiches, pasta salad, corn on the cob, garden salad, fresh fruit, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, variety of cookies, confetti cake, ice cream bars and Coca-Cola fountain drinks or iced tea.

Enjoy some sunshine and summer fun with time at the outdoor pools or Jamestown Beach Event Park.

  • James City County has outdoor pools at Chickahominy Riverfront Park (CRP) and Upper County Park. There is also a brand new splash pad at CRP. Pools are open daily, weather permitting.
  • Jamestown Beach Event Park, located across from Jamestown Settlement, offers a variety of outdoor activities and is close to the James City County Marina. The shoreline recently underwent extensive renovations and is considered a hidden gem by the Virginia Tourism Corporation. The park is open year-round from 8 a.m. to sunset, although certain amenities are only available during the summer. The park features picnic areas (some shaded) with charcoal grills; a designated fishing area (a freshwater license is required); an observation pier (for viewing only); outdoor rinse stations; paddle craft launch/loading area; and concession facility where ice cream, drinks, snacks and bags of ice are sold. This fully accessible park features an ADA accessible walkway, parking, restrooms, showers, picnic area and beach mat providing direct access to the river.

Enjoy barbecue at a special event or at one of many restaurants in James City County.

  • Attend the first Williamsburg Pro-Am BBQ Cookoff sponsored by the Rotary Club of the Historic Triangle on Sunday, July 1 from noon to 4 p.m. Enjoy unlimited samples of pulled pork and beef brisket barbecue from eight of the area's top BBQ purveyors and vote for your favorite! Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for kids. Adult tickets include two beer coupons.
  • Does the Fourth of July make you want hot dogs? Experience a variety of gourmet hot dogs at Toby’s Dog House on Jamestown Road. We love the “Beagle” – it’s the perfect marriage between a hot dog and a BLT.
  • If you crave barbecue and cannot make the BBQ Cookoff, check out Two Drummers Smokehouse in Toano. They have all kinds of barbecue on their menu and even offer take-home options for your own backyard barbecue.

Enjoy a cold one at Billsburg Brewery!

We have heard there may be some special surprises on tap at Billsburg Brewery during the week of the Fourth of July. Check their Facebook page for details.
