August is Craft Beer Month

Whether you are craving a brown ale, IPA, wheat beer or stout, there are numerous places in the County that offer large selections of beer and some even offer growler fills.


There is one craft brewery in James City County that opened in late October of 2017. Billsburg Brewery (Billsburg) is a destination brewery and event venue located at the James City County Marina. With rotating taps and several standard brews, Billsburg always has something new to try along with live music, local food trucks and events. Billsburg is conveniently located next door to destinations such as the Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestowne, the Colonial Parkway, the Virginia Capital Trail, Jamestown Beach Event Park and the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry.


Alewerks Brewing Co., located in nearby York County, opened a satellite taproom at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets in September 2017. The satellite taproom allows shoppers to take a break and enjoy a refreshing brew. There are numerous beers on tap. Additionally, the Alewerks satellite taproom offers growler fills and they have prepackaged beer available for purchase.


Busch Gardens Williamsburg offers a variety of craft beers throughout their park and they even have a taproom in the Festhaus called the Brauhaus Craft Bier Room.


Restaurants

  • Craft 31- This restaurant on Strawberry Plains Road has a large and rotating list of craft beers to pick from including beers from breweries in Greater Williamsburg! They offer 3.5 ounce sizes so you can pick a variety of beers to enjoy and also offer 32 oz. and 64 oz. growler fills. (Save money if you B.Y.O.G. - bring your own growler!)
  • Daddyo’s Tavern- Daddyo’s Tavern offers a variety of beverages include craft beers. They offer seasonal taps, so make sure to ask what’s currently being offered.
  • Oceans & Ale- With a slew of rotating taps, there’s always something new to try at Oceans & Ale near the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. There are more than 20 different draft beers on tap. Oceans & Ale also offers beer flights – four beers in four ounce glasses.
  • Paul’s Deli and Neighborhood Restaurant- Located in New Town, Paul’s Deli and Neighborhood Restaurant offers outside patio dining in addition to their inside area. They have a variety of taps that are accompanied by their large and diverse menu.

Bonus beer tip– The Wine Seller in Monticello Marketplace offers craft beer tastings on Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. and sells an every changing variety of craft brews. They have pints to enjoy in the store and growlers to fill and take home. If you prefer bottled craft beer, they offer quite the selection.
