Destinatioin Recreation Promo 2018

Parks & Recreation invites you to a great season of activities, classes, programs and events for all ages and abilities!  The Fall 2018/Winter 2019 edition of Destination Recreation highlights all of the department’s offerings through March 2019, hundreds of opportunities to have fun and get fit. Try out our new offerings…venture out for Night Hikes at Freedom Park, grab a friend for “Date” Paint Nights, have a ball at the youth Winter Break sports camps, and celebrate family and community at a variety of special events. The award-winning Freedom Park Multiuse Trail 3 is also featured in this edition, so read more about this hidden treasure within your reach.

Frink Jr. Community Center, the Satellite Services Office in Toano, the FreedomPark Interpretive Center, County parks, all public County government offices

JamestownBeach Event Park
Join us for free, fun and hands-on educational activities for the whole family! Presented in partnership with the James River Association, James Riverfest is a family environmental festival promoting protection of and recreation on the James River! All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. 


Capital Color Ride
Saturday, Oct. 6*, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
$10/person ($5 if you register before Sept. 30)
You’ve heard of The Color Run™, but how about a color ride? Enjoy this family-friendly biking event along a 15-mile stretch of the Virginia Capital Trail. Venture from Chickahominy Riverfront Park to the James City County Marina and back while encountering color stops, snacks, water and more at the rest stops. Preregister by Sept. 30 and save $5! Registration includes lunch and a free T-shirt, while supplies last. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Boo Bash at the Beach
Saturday, Oct. 20*, 1-4 p.m.
Admission: $5/car (cash or check only)
Jamestown Beach Event Park
Enjoy a day at the beach with a Halloween twist! Costumes welcome. Trick-or-Treating onsite for ages 12 and younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Also enjoy hands-on activities, pumpkin carving and decorating ($), first come, first served while supplies last. Event also features music, games, food for purchase and more!

Skate Jam After Hours
Friday, Oct. 26*, 5-8 p.m.
$10/participant
Skate Park (next to the James City County Recreation Center)
Check out the Skate Park in a whole different light! This glow-themed night will include a skate competition broken down into beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions where participants are judged on style, flow and difficulty of run. Warm ups begin at 5 p.m. and registration is required for admittance into the park. Preregistration is encouraged. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Live Well Expo (ages 55+) Free!
Friday, Nov. 2, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Pamper your mind, body and spirit while taking advantage of FREE
preventive health screenings during this annual event! Learn about services foradults ages 55+ that are available in the community and get your vaccinations
as well as vision, hearing, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings. Alsotake advantage of information provided about nutrition, home health care,
pharmacies, leisure services, recreational activities and MORE!

Santa Calling (ages 9 & younger) Free!

Parks & Recreation is sponsoring Phone Calls from Santa” for children ages 9 and younger living inJames City County and Williamsburg. Arrangements have been made with the North
Pole for Santa and/or Mrs. Claus to personally call each child who returnstheir completed form by Tuesday, Nov. 27. Registration forms available (English
and Spanish) beginning Nov. 1 at the James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, Satellite Services inToano, Freedom Park Interpretive Center, Chickahominy Riverfront Park and
online at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation.


Breakfast with Santa

You and your family are invited to attend our annual Breakfast with Santa. Enjoy a pancake breakfast buffet and a morning of holly-day cheer with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Photo opportunities available. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please register everyone who is attending to ensure their seat; registration required by Dec. 1. Max 100 people.  


Fitness Open HouseFree!

Now is the time! It’s a New Year and time for a new routine! Aquatic and land instructors will be available to discuss their classes, formats and typical modifications with you in a personal setting. Participate in mini classes throughout the morning. Sentara nurses will be available to administer health screenings. Gait Analysis appointments will be held and fitness orientations conducted. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required. Info: 757-259-4176. 

Family Health Fair, Free!

Join The Arc of Greater Williamsburg and learn about the health benefitsour community has to offer to you and your family! Enjoy activities for all
ages, healthy recipes and cooking demonstrations, giveaways, nutritionworkshops and Zumba and

Jr. NBA Skills ChallengeFree!
Saturday, Feb. 9*, 10 a.m. - noon
James City County Recreation Center 
This nationwide program, for ages 6-13, is a fun way to lace up the
basketball shoes and test your skills against other local players! Thecompetition consists of a one minute timed drill and shots from multiple, pre-determined
locations around the court. The
 top three participants in each age group are eligible to move on to theregional tournament and from there to an all-expense paid trip to the skills
challenge championships! Aging date for each participant is their age on Aug.31, 2019,
 not their current age. Preregistration is highly recommended as spaces
are limited. 


Black SettlementPresentation (all ages) Free!

Freedom Park Interpretive Center
Join Col. Lafayette Jones
Jr., a descendant of those who lived on the Free Black Settlement at 
Freedom Park for a presentation and book signing. You’ll experience 18th centurylife more than 60 years before the Emancipation Proclamation.

Fido Fest

Don’t miss the PAW-TY! Grab your leash and get to the park with your furry friend for a great time! Family and dog-friendly activities, games, contests, fabulous food ($) and more awaits you! Family Fun Night
Saturday, March 30, 7-9:30 p.m.

Join us for a night of family FUN and entertainment – enjoy structured games in the gym, create various craft projects together, splash in the pool, dance to some tunes, play racquetball or old-fashioned board games and more! If preregistering, please register everyone who is attending! Pre-registration recommended but not required. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.
