James City County is pleased to announce that it will host IRONMAN® 70.3® Virginia on Sunday, May 5, 2019. The event will be hosted at Chickahominy Riverfront Park (CRP) and will use the same triathlon course as REV3 Williamsburg in previous years. This course includes the use of the Virginia Capital Trail.

Athletes will take on a 1.2-mile point-to-point swim in the Chickahominy River, followed by a 56-mile bike course that navigates the rolling rural roads of scenic James City and Charles City counties and a 13.1-mile run course that takes place on the newly completed Virginia Capital Trail. This new event offers a unique tour of the historic area with challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon Series is the world’s premier half-distance triathlon series consisting of over 100 qualifying races in 50+ countries, regions and territories across the world. This is the only location in Virginia that hosts an IRONMAN 70.3 event. The 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Virginia triathlon will offer 30 qualifying slots to the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship which will take place in the Oceania region. IRONMAN 70.3 Virginia will bring approximately 2,000 triathletes and their spectators to the Greater Williamsburg region.

IRONMAN acquired REV3 Williamsburg from Revolution3 Triathlon with the event now being renamed as the IRONMAN 70.3 Virginia triathlon.

On Sunday, May 5, CRP will be closed to all park patrons and visitors. Additional closures to specific areas of the park and camping limitations are anticipated leading up to the event. More details regarding traffic and impact on the park will be released once the details of the event have been finalized.

Since the inception of the IRONMAN® brand in 1978, athletes have proven that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE® by crossing finish lines at the world’s most challenging endurance races. Beginning as a single race, IRONMAN has grown to become a global sensation with more than 230 events across 53 countries.
