In honor of America Recycles Day (Nov. 15), the James City Clean County Commission and Keep James City County Beautiful (KJCCB) volunteers are partnering once again with Solid Waste & Recycling to host the 5th Annual Litter & Recycling Expo. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center, 1204 Jolly Pond Road. The Expo is free and open to the public with information booths, youth activities, giveaways, recycling opportunities and information about the James City County Zero Tolerance for Litter Policy.
This year's Expo will include additional opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle! Coastal Virginia Environmental Coatings will be accepting latex paints for recycling. A Goodwill truck will be onsite so this is the time to clean out those closets and attics and Restore will also have a truck onsite to accept all of your used furniture, appliances and just about anything else you are looking to get rid of! Additional items accepted at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center for recycling include:
- 20 lb propane tanks
- Aluminum cans, pie pans, & foil
- Antifreeze
- Cardboard
- Electronics
- Glass bottles & jars
- Kitchen grease
- Metal cans/lids
- Mixed paper
- Motor oil
- Plastic bottles
- Plastic bags
- Rechargeable batteries
- Scrap metal
- Tires
- Yard Debris
The Clean County Commission and KJCCB volunteers will be onsite with several opportunities for volunteer participation in the areas of litter prevents, recycling and community beautification. Partnering organizations include askHRgreen.org, JCC Law Enforcement, VPPSA and Leave No Trace.
