Current weather conditions are causing slick and slush-covered roads throughout James City County and many accidents have been reported. County emergency officials are urging residents to stay off the roads if possible and monitor local weather reports. If you must go out, use extreme caution and take a cell phone with you should you need it in an emergency.
Delayed Openings and Cancellations
- County Offices, the Recreation Center, convenience centers, courts and libraries will open at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10.
- Curbside recycling for Dec. 10 has been canceled. All collections for the week will be pushed back one day.
- The James City County Adult Services unit’s Holiday Breakfast for Seniors originally scheduled for Dec. 10 has been canceled. No decision has been made yet on rescheduling.
Power Outages
As of 7 p.m., approximately 50% of Dominion Energy customers in the County are without power.
- Be sure to report outages by calling 866-366-4357 or going to https://www.dominionenergy.com/out…/report-and-check-outages.
- Stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines - consider them energized and dangerous. Report downed power lines to Dominion at 866-366-4357.
- Use a flashlight; candles can cause a fire.
- Check on neighbors.
- Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Only use generators and grills outdoors and away from windows. Never heat your home with a gas stovetop or oven.
County emergency officials will continue to monitor conditions throughout the night and urge residents to monitor local media for the latest updates. County closings and weather-related information will be posted on the County’s website, Facebook and Twitter.
